Excursion begins 8:45 on Rynok Square

Olesko Castle

The castle stands on a hill above the river Libertsiya. People say that the fortress was created by one of the sons of Yuriy Lvovych, the Galician-Volhynian Duke (Prince). The earliest references to the castle were found in historical sources of 1327. Over the years, the fortress has undergone reconstruction and changes. The King of Poland, Jan III Sobieski, was born here. In the late 1970s, a museum preserve (a unit of the Lviv Art Gallery) was established here in the castle. An incredible and picturesque park emphasizes the glory of the fortification walls.

Zolochiv Castle

One of the most harmonious castles of Ukraine. It combines a majestic entrance tower, a charming Chinese palace, a large residential palace and the fortress walls. It was a royal residence, so the interior was royal, too. However, over the years, the premises were transferred to the lord and were used as his mansion, then there was a prison here and even and educational institution. Today, Zolochiv Castle is an active branch of the Lviv Art Gallery and a museum preserve, displaying a rich variety of art works.

Pidhirtsi Castle

The property was previously owned by the Zhevusky magnate family. Besides the luxurious palace with bastions, there is also a real ‘Italian park’ there. Pidhirtsi Castle is the best Renaissance Castle in Europe. Its park is the only real park of this type in Ukraine. Another interesting sight that is worth your attention is St. Michael’s Church, a wooden folk art piece. It dates back to 1720.
